Hurricane Center director happy as "weather geek"

MIAMI (AP) - This week marks a small milestone for the self-described "weather geek" who now heads the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Bill Read has been director since January, but Monday is the end of the first month of the six-month Atlantic hurricane season.

The season has been quiet so far. Ahead, however, are August and September, typically the season's busiest months.
