Hurricane Insurance: High court declines jurisdiction in Allstate suit
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Supreme Court has declined jurisdiction in Allstate Corp.'s suit against Florida insurance regulators.
The state had ordered the insurer to stop writing policies for failing to comply with requests for documents on its business practices. The court's decision Wednesday is largely moot because Allstate turned over most of the documents last month and has been allowed to resume its entire line of business in Florida. The company was stripped of selling car insurance policies for two days last month before complying with the Office of Insurance Regulation's long-standing request for documents on its ratemaking policies. Allstate, based in Northbrook, Ill., has been on the outs with Florida regulators for seeking increases on homeowners' policies exceeding 40 percent. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.
