Chicago- The pound for pound king of mixed martial arts is about to arrive on the American scene. Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianeko and Brett “The Grim” Rogers will headline Stikeforce's Saturday Night Fights at the Sears Center Arena on November 7th. The exciting fight card is set to air live on CBS.
Fedor (30-1-0) is widely recognized as the best fighter in the sport, suffering his only loss due to a cut almost nine years ago. Rogers (10-0-0) is unbeaten since first entering the fight game in 2006. Both fighters are coming off easy first round handlings of “The Pitbull” Andre Arlovski.
Fedor is the heavy favorite. The 33-year-old Russian is a master at the submission game, with more than half of his wins the result of opponent tap-outs. Rogers, 28-years-old, fights out of Minnesota and will likely be looking for the knock out. The effective striker has KO’d nine of his 10 opponents and will enjoy a five inch height advantage over the six foot Russian.
In addition to the highly anticipated main event, the Strikeforce middleweight title is also up for grabs when 10-year MMA veteran, Jake Shields (23-4-1), faces the very entertaining Jason “Mayhem” Miller (22-6-0). Shields brings a 12-fight win streak into the cage.
Also, Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard Mousasi (26-2-1) and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (7-4-0) will square off in a non-title bout. While two Brazilian heavyweights, Fabricio Werdum(12-4-1) and Antonio Silva (13-1-0), will begin the televised card.
You can watch Strikeforce/M-1 Global “Fedor vs. Rogers” live on WINK-TV, November 7th at 9pm.
