FORT MYERS, Fla. - WINK News had learned that Lee County officials have had repeated contact with the Baltimore Orioles. They are discussing having the team move into City of Palms Park in Fort Myers. They may be close to a deal.
The Boston Red Sox are leaving for new digs as early as 2012.
Vero Beach and Sarasota both tried to woo the Orioles, but their offers were far short of what the Orioles were looking for.
The Orioles would bring in a lot of money. Even though they don't have the same fan base of the Red Sox, an economic impact study by the Sarasota County Chamber of Commerce showed they bring in more money because of Cal Ripkin Baseball.
The Orioles currently train in Fort Lauderdale.
