Day 13 of the Beijing Olympics Wednesday

STAR
Usain Bolt of Jamaica broke the world record by winning the 200 meters in 19.30 seconds, becoming the first man since Carl Lewis in 1984 to sweep the 100 and 200 gold medals at an Olympics. Bolt is the first man to break the world marks in both sprints at an Olympics - a feat that neither Lewis nor Jesse Owens accomplished. He beat the record of 19.32 set by Michael Johnson at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

MEDALS
China edged closer to the U.S. for the overall medals lead, with 79 total, 45 of them gold. The U.S. has 81 medals, 26 of them gold.

BMX-GAMES
BMX cycling arrived in the Olympics to the sound of AC-DC's "Thunderstruck," and crowds cheering and gasping at the jumps and crashes. Advancing in the men's race were Mike Day, Donny Robinson and Kyle Bennett, who dislocated his left shoulder after a nasty wreck in his final heat but finished the race and advanced to the semifinal round. For the women, Jill Kintner, the lone American in the 16-racer field, qualified with a No. 7 seed.

DOPING
Lyudmila Blonska of Ukraine is under investigation for a positive doping test and could be stripped of her silver medal in the Olympic heptathlon. The International Olympic Committee disciplinary commission and executive board are expected to rule on the case Thursday. If found guilty of a doping offense, the 30-year-old Blonska would lose her medal and be expelled from the games.

CRYSTL CLEARS THE WALL
Crystl Bustos had a three-run homer to lead the U.S. softball team in extra innings over Japan, 4-1. Both teams will match up in Thursday's gold-medal game because Japan later beat Australia 4-3 in 12 innings.

CHINESE TAKEOUT
Kobe Bryant scored 25 points in his best game in Beijing as the U.S. men's basketball team advanced to the semifinals by beating Australia 116-85. Next: defending champion Argentina or Greece on Friday for a spot in the gold medal game on the last day of the Olympics. ... Rohullah Nikpai got a bronze medal in the men's under-58 kilogram division, giving Afghanistan its first Olympic medal ever. ... Melaine Walker of Jamaica won the gold medal in the women's 400-meter hurdles.

THURSDAY'S SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHT
In the last Olympic softball game for at least eight years, the U.S. goes for its fourth straight gold medal by playing Japan, 6:30 p.m. (6:30 a.m. EDT).

In the women's 200 meters, Americans Allyson Felix, Muna Lee and Marshevet Hooker take on the Jamaican trio of Veronica Campbell-Brown, Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart, 7:30 p.m. (7:30 a.m. EDT).
