Rays' leaders to reveal financial plan for new stadium

By The Associated Press

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - The Tampa Bay Rays are finally ready to say how they plan to build a new, $450 million waterfront stadium in St. Petersburg.

The team floated the idea last year and has been under pressure from Pinellas County officials to reveal their financing plan for the 35,000-seat stadium. The St. Petersburg-based team currently plays at Tropicana Field, a dome stadium that is near downtown, but considered unattractive by some fans.

Rays officials will say how much public money they will need in a presentation to St. Petersburg city council members at 3 p.m. Thursday.

A new stadium is a key piece of the Rays overhaul - which this year included new uniforms, a new manager and a name change, dropping "Devil" from their name.
