TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Buster Posey was all over the field for Florida State. The Seminoles catcher played all nine defensive positions -- and hit a grand slam -- in a 10-0 seven-inning victory over Savannah State.
The junior is expected to be a high pick in the major league baseball draft in June. He became the fourth Seminoles player under coach Mike Martin to play all nine positions. Mike Martin Junior, the coach's son, was the last to perform the feat in 1994.
Posey started yesterday's game at his usual spot behind the plate, moved to first base in the second, second base in the third, shortstop in the fourth and third base in the fifth. He went to left field in the sixth and shifted over to center with two outs. Posey, who has also closed for the Seminoles, took the mound in the seventh and struck out both batters he faced before moving to right field for the final out of the inning.
The game was called in the bottom of the seventh due to the 10-run mercy rule.
