Officer fired after spanking woman

OCOEE, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida police department has fired an officer accused of stripping, fondling and spanking a woman against her will.

The termination of Ocoee police Sgt. Thomas Maroney goes into effect Wednesday. He was arrested last week and released on bond.

Police Chief Steven Goclon told Maroney in a letter that his behavior "reflects so poorly upon you and the department that it severely affects your ability to perform your duties."

Maroney's alleged victim told authorities they were at a party when he asked her for oral sex, pulled down her pants, touched her genitals, pinned her across his legs and spanked her bare backside with his hand - then a leather belt.

The termination letter says Maroney admitted he was drunk and "behaved poorly."
