Alligator bites off Florida man's thumb

By The Associated Press

MIAMI (AP) - The Seminole Tribe is investigating an alligator attack that injured one of their employees.

Officials say an animal control worker was trying to trap a nuisance alligator yesterday when the creature bit his hand, severing his thumb.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue airlifted the 38-year-old to Broward General Medical Center, where staff were trying to reattach his thumb.

Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner did not identify the man for privacy reasons but said he was a longtime employee.

No information was immediately available on what happened to the alligator.
