Jacksonville teacher punished for duct-taping student, keeps job

By The Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville teacher will get to keep her job after duct-taping her student's mouth shut in class.

The school district says 23-year-old math teacher Kasey Goodin wrapped duct tape around a student's legs, hands and mouth. Goodin has been a teacher at Kirby Smith Middle School since 2006.

The teacher says it all started as a joke and the student and his classmates were laughing the entire time. But the school board apparently didn't think it was funny.

Goodin has been suspended for ten days without pay. She will go through additional training on classroom discipline and adolescent behavior, but will keep her job.
