Black Friday shoppers stake their claims

By Haley Hinds, WINK News

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The turkey hasn't even been sliced, but anxious Black Friday shoppers have no problem passing on the pumpkin pie and heading straight for the stores.

"This Is our Thanksgiving," Kent Miller said.

They're making their lists and checking them twice. "We are getting the laptop, PS3, printer, getting a camera, GPS, and an XBOX," Randy Mills said.

And when it comes to shopping, it's not always about being nice. "I'm not going to tell you what I'm getting, just for the fact that it's game," Jacob Sobeck said.

Some stores like Best Buy where more than a dozen people are already camped out open their doors at 5 a.m. Friday. Others open at 4 a.m. For those who just can't wait, the Miromar Outlets is welcoming bargain hunters as soon as the clock strikes midnight.

But like a turkey without its stuffing, what would Thursday's newspaper be without coupons? Workers at the News-Press stuffed papers all day with sales and doorbusters. The planning starts in September and once the ads come in, they're under lock and key. "We have to put cameras on them to make sure that it's properly taken care of and we are recording 24 hours a day," James Zajas of the News-Press said.

To this day, they've never had a leak. Of course, if you don't feel like fighting the Friday crowds, you can always relax at home and grab some great deals online - especially on Cyber Monday...but what fun is that when you can camp outside in the rain?
