Man arrested for having sex with 13-year-old girl

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - Charlotte County Sheriff's Major Crimes detectives arrested 24-year-old Joseph John Ventre from Port Charlotte, for having sex with a 13-year-old girl last April 2.

Detectives said Ventre had sex with the girl when he lived in an apartment at 2511 Luther Road, Port Charlotte. The girl had a sleep-over at her 15-year-old cousin's house but they left the home and met Ventre around 2:00 a.m. Ventre drove the girls to his apartment; the 15-year-old watched TV with Ventre's nephew while Ventre and the 13-year-old went to his bedroom and had sexual activity. Detectives said Ventre gave the 13-year old girl a ring and had asked her to marry him.

The girl was taken to an area hospital and released following testing while the CCSO Forensics Unit obtained the victims clothing for evidence. Detectives went to Ventre's apartment but no one answered so they went to his mother's home on Austin Ave.; his mother said he had left for New Jersey. Ventre turned himself in and was booked into the Charlotte County Jail on three felony counts of Lewd and Lascivious Offense Against A Child Victim 12-15 Years of Age, one count of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation, and an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear. He is being held without bond.

people, wake the hell up. Girls at the age of 13 are hardly little girls anymore. I don't agree on them having sexual activity, but these girls were raised this way and there is no stopping them from doing what they want. If you want to arrest someone, arrest the parent because next week or next month, this girl will do the same thing to another dude and we as tax payers will have to continue dishing it out cause of low class parenting or just a bad seed. not being mean, just stating the obvi

Girls nowadays look and say they are much older than they are. I think all girls under the age of consent should be under curfew and if they are caught out after that then the parents should serve time as well. I dont condone sex with young girls let alone out of marriage. But think of the world we live in these days. Come on coppers do your job, keep the youngins out of the street.

PEOPLE NEED TO CONTROLE THEIR KIDS.WHY ARE THEY OUT AT 2AM .HOW MANY MORE MEN HAS SHE HAD?

The basis of under-age sex laws is that the child is not old enough to be able to consent. Even if she went willingly, the law believes that a 13 y/o old mind is not mature enough to make that decision. I agree! However, Mr. Hot Pants definately knew better - thus, the fleeing to NJ.

Forget your history lessons. History is history and we all live in what should be more civilized times. If a person knowingly breaks the law then that person only has themeves to blame for it. Even if the girl begged him for sex, he knew he was breaking the law and should have weighed the consequences - even if that was the case.

The Catholic Church once permitted any girl 12 years or older to marry in the Catholic Church. (I do not approve of anyone getting involved in sexual activites if they are too young to drink alcoholic beverages)

She went at 2am, the 15yo cousin was in the next room? She knew what she was doing this was NOT rape! This was fun and games. This 13yo probably looked, lied, and said she was 18. Let the guy go!

My Grandma was 15, and my Grandpa was 18. I would not be here if the laws said that this was illegal. Loretta Lynn, the famious country star was 13, and her husband was about twenty. Did the law say that was wrong? Perhaps the law enforcement agencies should open the books and go back and arrest these people! That is the way it was years ago. They create laws to justify jobs, and did you know that sex offender laws come under the Antidrug Trust 1994 law. Just to get free money for the state.

Yes his behavior was wrong...but where in this does it say what happens to the 13 yr old who apparently quite willingly engaged in "activities" with this man?
