Burglar busted after what some call a "stupid" mistake

By WINK News

UPDATE
FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. - A Fort Myers Beach restaurant is still finding it hard to believe a burglar could be so..."stupid".

Surveillance video from the Junkanoo Restaurant catches the suspect breaking in and rummaging through the bar area.

You can't hear it on the video, but restaurant employees tell WINK News the alarms were blaring.

It didn't seem to bother the burglar and neither did a phone call from the alarm company.

Manager, George Tomasi still can't believe the suspect's next move, "He picked it up and the security company asked him who this was, and he gave him his name!"

That's right, according to the alarm company ADT, the suspect identified himself as Christopher Kron, which deputies say was his real name.

He couldn't give the pass code though, so the Sheriff's Office was called.

He left the restaurant with what appeared to be a bottle of alcohol before deputies arrived.

The story didn't end there, turns out the surveillance video would not be the last time employees would see Kron's face.

"He came back the next morning and they caught him walking down stairs and they got him," said Tomasi, "Just not a very intelligent person."

Apparently a Junkanoo employee immediately recognized Kron as the burglar from the surveillance video.

Tomasi says Kron only left with a bottle of Grand Marnier and a beer and a story the beach restaurant won't forget.

"I don't know what to think," laughed Tomasi, "He better take lessons in criminalism because if he's going to be a criminal, he better start acting like one."

ORIGINAL POSTING:

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. - A Naples man accused of breaking into a Fort Myers Beach restaurant, made a not-so-smart move during the "heist".

According to sheriff's reports, the break-in activated the alarm and when the alarm company called, the alleged burglar gave the operator his real name.

But, he was unable to provide the necessary pass-code.

The alarm company, ADT, called employees at home and asked if they knew the person who identified himself as Christopher Kron. The employee didn't and told ADT to call the Sheriff's Office.

A review of video surveillance showed a white male walk around the bar area and toward the camera before leaving with what appeared to be a bottle of alcohol.

The video wouldn't be the last time Junkanoo employees would see the burglar's face.

He apparently showed up at the restaurant the next morning. An employee immediately recognized him and called the Sheriff's Office.

He was allegedly honest with his name again, this time to deputies. He identified himself as Christopher Kron, the same name he gave to the ADT operator.

During a taped interview, Kron told deputies about a residence near Junkanoo.

Apparently, he did not have permission to be on the property.

Deputies were able to recover a bottle of Grand Marnier from the residence, the same bottle of alcohol missing from Junkanoo.

Kron was arrested on charges of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, burglary of a conveyance and larceny petit theft.

According to jail records, he was arrested on his birthday.
