FORT MYERS, Fla. - How to permanently remember Officer Andrew Widman? That is the question for Fort Myers city leaders on Monday.
The make-shift memorial to Officer Widman, on Main Street where he was murdered, is now only four candles. The candles are pushed next to the building where officer Widman was killed in the early morning of July 18th.
On Monday, the Fort Myers City Council will discuss the idea of naming a city street or public space in Fort Myers after the fallen officer.
What are your ideas to memorialize Officer Widman?

We as a community have come together, and want to make something good come from this tragedy. I am sorry some people are not together with the rest of us. There are to many people that sit there and wait for things to happen, then there are people that make them happen. We don't sit at home waiting for someone to do it for us. If you want it go get, or stop complaining.

I spent last thanksgiving in the childrens cancer ward at healthpark. My daughter had a tumor removed. Nothing was done for these kids with cancer. Their family's cannot even pay their bills as they are always in the hospital with the siblings of these small children with cancer. THESE KIDS DID NOT HAVE THE CHOICE OFFICER WIDMAN HAS, NOR DO THEIR FAMILY. THEY ARE THE TRUE HERO'S OF OUR COMMUNITY,fighting so that some day they will have a choice to make. How about a fundraiser for these family's?

The best way to remember and honor Ofc. Widman would be to pass legislation that would make sure this never happens again.Call it the Andrew Widman bill.

I think that's a great idea. I know other people die everyday but doing something nice to one of them is better than no doing anything at all. I wish we could do something for each person (Hero) do die in the line of duty. I like the idea.

Good job Dave.........., and well said. I totally agree. I lost my brother in Iraq in '06 and he received NOTHING regarding any "heores" welcome home and burial. His wife and 2 young daughters got NOTHING. I agree, God bless Officer Widman and his family but hot dog........., ENOUGH IS ENOUGH already!

I feel the same as some other readers. Drop it already. Although it's a sad situation for his family, he was doing his job, a job that he was fully aware that at any moment something like this could happen. That's why they are trained. Plenty of innocent bystander's are killed everyday, and we never see memorials put up for them, or hundred's of thousand's of dollars raised. Let's move on please, I'm sure something else is happening around town.

Actually, who remembers all the soldiers killed in Iraq and Afganistan, what about all the Police Officers killed around the country? Why doesn't anyone remember them. Yes, it's tragic what happened to Officer Widman but it seems the public, press, and local government is too focused on remembering one Officer and not remembering all the others who have fallen in the line of duty. Just let the issue go please. Otherwise, let's start remembering all the others we seem to keep forgetting.

I think a plaque at the site would be good. This would help people like myself, not from the area, find the location. I knew Andy in Toledo.

God Bless the Widmans Family. But please let the police department do the same thing with other victims in the same situation with all the heart they gave to this tragedy. Who are Civilians. If they do not what does that say?
