Neica Marie Gibbs missing for 3 weeks, dead in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities have identified a decomposing body as that of a 13-year-old girl who had been missing for three weeks.

The body of Neica Marie Gibbs of Fort Lauderdale was found wrapped in a tarp in front of a trash bin Wednesday.

Police said the trash bin was just steps away from a home where Neica was supposed to attend a sleepover three weeks ago.

Fort Lauderdale Police said it is unclear how Neica died. An autopsy is scheduled.

It is heart breaking. We all need to pray for her ,and for our society and who ever is responsible for committing this awful crime. I just recently heard about her and I am extremely sadden and numb, as if someone threw me in to freezing water. I hope whoever did this turns themselves in. I hope their concience bothers them untile they do.

I took interest in Neica's case as soon as I rec'd a BOLO from Ft. Lauderdale Police Dept. I asked her grandmother if Neica run away, she said,"NO" At that time, I knew I was too late.Nevertheless, I continued asking questions.I was told that Neica emailed one of her friends, then I heard Neica was seen at Dillard Mall.At that point,I knew Neica was dead. When a child is reported missing, one has only hours to find him/her alive. I'm so sorry for Neica and her family...DPerryMCIM@aol.com

I hear stories like this all the time and for some reason this one hurt me the most. Not only was this sweet, smart and beautiful little girl killed, but it wasn't too far from my house. my heart goes out to the family/friends and everyone who graced her life and this is no mistake! and the person who did this will PAY!!!! and i PROMISE THAT! and when he/she is found, he/she will be hearing from me! i know its not right to fight violence w/violence, but this is so wrong! POINT BLANK! R.I.P BABY

this is why i take my kids where they want to go and pick them up. and i don't even live in a "dangerous" neighborhood. anything can happen anywhere at anytime. i get chills when i see kids walking around on the streets. this isn't 1975! we need to protect our kids from predators! we're the parents; we need to think about this stuff because the kids don't realize it w/their innocent minds. God be with her family. My prayers are with them.
