TOLEDO, Ohio - Murdered Fort Myers Police Officer Andy Widman is a graduate of Toledo Christian High School in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated back in 1996.
He left quite an impression on a good number of people there.
"Deeply saddened, how sudden something like that can happen," says Dennis Rabb reacting to the news his former student Andy Widman was killed. Rabb was also Widman's cross country coach and friend.
In addition to running in High School, Widman was a national honor society officer and voted "most encouraging".
After high school his interest in religion continued. Rabb says, "He went to seminary in Boston. And I teach bible, so we'd talk about the bible and politics spiritual things."
Widman was a part of missionary work as well. "Numerous times he would go on summer short-term trips and even longer trips to africa and elsewhere," Rabb recalled.
"Andy was one of those kids who I remember was fun-loving, very enjoyable, every teacher loved to have him in class," say Drew Popejoy, Toledo Christian High School's principal.
Popejoy says members of Toledo Christian are a close group, a family, and there's a feeling of great loss with widman's death. "When one member is hurting we're all hurting so I know there's a lot of heavy hearts right now in the toledo area as this news gets out," said Popejoy.
But, their faith in God will pull his family and friends through this tragic loss.
"It's good that we have a hope in the lord. I have no doubt Andy had a deep faith and I'm confident we'll see him again," says Rabb.
