One of the fallen officer's favorite bible verses

By WINK News

FORT MYERS, Fla. - In his high school yearbook, Andrew Widman had Matthew 6:25-26 under his name.

Here is the verse below the high school picture of the police officer killed in the line of duty:

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

I am so very saddened by the loss of Officer Widman. I am so proud of the FMPD for chasing down the dead beat that took away an officer and minister, father and husband. The officer who finally finished the task should be honored but in my knowledge no one from FMPD wants to be the "hero" and we will probably never know whose shot got the dead beat. But thank you for taking him down. You did the world a service. To the girlfriend, you knew what you were dealing with. Why did he have a gun?

As a mother of police officer and a wife of a former police officer, I understand what the job is like. As a community, we need to love and support our law enforcement. My deepest sympathy to the family. In Isaiah God tells us that he holds us in the palm of his hand. He will hold this family in the palm of his hands and keep them strong. God bless you all!
