Who is Abel Arango?

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - Arango was only 26-years-old, but he already has an extensive record in Southwest Florida, in fact, he had a warrant out for his arrest.
Arango spent time in prison from 1999 to 2004. His latest arrest was back in May, in Lee County for cocaine possession, and he was scheduled to appear in court on August 13th.
As far as Arango's history in Collier County, its extensive. His first arrest listed in court documents is for domestic violence, back in 1997. At that point he was just a teenager.
From there, the arrests range from robbery, to possession of a concealed weapon, to drug charges.
Arango was also a wanted man at this point with a warrant out for his arrest.
WINK News visited Arango's last known address at 4060 Ice Castle Walk Apartment 7 in East Naples to see if we could find out more about him. No one was home at that address, and neighbors we talked to say they don't think anyone by that name lives there now.
We also knocked on the door at the home of his girlfriend in San Carlos Park, and an address we found for some of Arango's relatives in East Naples. No one answered the door at either place. Neighbors in the areas refused to comment.

It's a sad when there isn't an answer to be given to the events that happened last week. There is no comfort for both families, because the fact is that there are a lot of people hurting from this incident. No one will ever know what really happened or why it happened. Just let Officer Andrew and Abel be remembered in the way people want to remember them. You can't change people's mind about a loved one they lost no matter how "good" or "bad" they turned out to be. May God be with both families.

I do not condone what Abel did. But I must say I knew Abel extremely well, he was not this person. I beleive he was scared to go back to prison, which does not justify his actions what so ever. However, my heart goes out to the officer's 3 kids as well as Abel's 3 kids for they will suffer more than anyone. I did not know the officer or his family but I know it wasn't deserved. is the lack of resources and education in the low socio-economic communities. Abel was a very microscopic/minute portion of the big picture. The solution is not border patrol or the "war on drugs". Orango got what he deserved. He just didn't get it soon enough. This man's life was a disgrace. His criminal record is a testimony of his disreguard for human life and authority. He should have been deported long ago. As it is, he was allowed to stay in our great country and take the life of one of our brave citizens. I am sickened that this man was not deported long ago.
