DCF investigator charged with DUI and child neglect

By WINK News

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - A Department of Children and Families investigator has been charged with DUI and child neglect.

A Florida Highway Patrol officer arrested Jill Kostiuk, 37, early Saturday morning after she allegedly ran a red light and caused an accident in Collier County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report Kostiuk's 3-year-old son was in the SUV at the time. According to the officer on the scene, Kostiuk refused to complete a field sobriety test and refused to take a breath test.

"I think anytime we hear of a person endangering a child by having them with in a situation such as this, it concerns us," Cheri Schaeffer, a DCF spokesperson said.

No one was hurt in the accident. Kostiuk's son was turned over to his father.

WINK News notified DCF of the incident. A spokesperson for DCF says they were not aware of the charges, but said that Kostiuk did not show up for work Monday.

"If an employee is arrested, they're expected to contact their supervisor immediately and apparently that has not happened," Schaeffer said.

A spokesperson for DCF says Kostiuk has been fired from district 20 and no longer works for DCF, sighting the seriousness of the charges.

"There are certain standards that all department employees have to abide by, standards of conduct, and one of these is, of course, obeying the state and federal laws."
