UPDATE: Missing Marine's body identified

By WINK News

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives have notified the family that the Medical Examiner has identified the body found Sunday in a culvert as that of ex-Marine Eric W. Hall.

A Major Crimes Unit detective told Hall's family around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning that the 24-year-old's body had been officially identified. Officials say the cause of death has not been determined at this time.

The family of Eric Hall believed the body found in a drainage pipe by a volunteer was the ex-marine before the official word from the M.E.

Eric's father, Kevin Hall, said the body had a titanium hip like Eric's and had on the same clothes Eric was wearing the night he disappeared.

His family says he suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome after a tour of duty in Iraq.

Hall had been missing since February 3rd when a witness told WINK News he saw Hall jump off his motorcycle and run into the woods.

Hall's mother will be holding a press conference at Noon in the home of a relative in Deep Creek.

A military memorial service will be held at Noon Thursday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Punta Gorda.

The family says Eric will be buried at home in Indiana.

I'm so terribly sorry for this young man's family. Nothing is worse than this. He was a true hero in every sense of the word and my kids will know his name. He deserved so much more than this. I feel like this country and the military let him down. He survived so much only to meet a terrible fate. Eric Hall you will be missed by people that never knew you. Thank you for giving the ultimate sacrifice. I hope we will honor your commitment and courage in a way pleasing to your family.

In the story above you refer to Eric as an "ex-marine", there is no such thing. Marine's believe once a Marine always a Marine. Eric served and sacraficed for his country. The Marines granted him medical retirement, therefore he deserves respect and the correct way to refer to Eric is Retired Marine.
