MYAKKA CITY, Fla. - The stallions of royal bloodline bring us on a daytrip to Myakka City. They are perhaps the rarest and most regal horses in all the world. The original Hermann’s Lipizzan Stallions breed and train right here.
The bloodline stretches back centuries. Gabriella Herrmann has taken the reigns in Myakka City, where the family settled on 200 acres back in 1962.
Gabriella grew up with these horses, riding and training each of them. After her father's death in 2004 the responsibility of keeping the breed going fell on her.
For decades the Herrmann Lipizzans have traveled the country for half the year. But financial restraints may keep the stallions closer to home in the future.
The Herrmann ranch is located in Myakka City. The stallions are here in Florida now through the end of April, before leaving to go on tour. Shows are Thursday and Friday at 3:00 in the afternoon and Saturdays at 10:00 am.
Centuries of tradition are kept alive by the Herrmann family and the good thing is, you don't have to travel to Europe to see these Lippizans. They are right here in our own backyard.
