Bicyclists mowed down by a motorist in West Miami-Dade

By The Associated Press

MIAMI (AP) - Charges are pending against the driver of a car that pulled into the path of several bicyclists in Miami-Dade, leaving two riders critically injured and injuring several others.

Police say the driver failed to yield the right of way to the bicyclists. Yesterday's accident forced the riders to slam into the small SUV. The driver's name has not been released.

Detectives are still investigating the accident and two bicyclists remain in critical but stable condition.

Residents of the Kendall area neighborhood say a row of cars parked in the street's bike lane could have obstructed the driver's view.

Florida passed a law last year that makes it illegal for drivers to pass bicyclists with less than three feet of space between them. In May 2002, another bicyclist was killed in the same neighborhood.
