Carbon monoxide poisoning sent a family to the hospital

By WINK News

Lehigh Acres - A family is safe and sound now after being hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning. The incident happened Thursday morning when a generator was left on inside the family’s garage.

The family is back home with no major injuries.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office says around 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning, they received a call from the Lehigh Regional Medical Center, saying three people, a 12-year-old, 17-year-old, and a 20-year-old were all suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. The Sheriff's Office says that the family's electricity was shut off, so to keep power on in their house, they put a running generator in the garage, with the door closed. A short time later, the family started to feel sick, in particular the three children. They were taken to Lehigh Regional Medical Center, where they were treated and released.

There were also two parents in the house at the time. They didn't need to be hospitalized, but again three of her children did, but they are back home now where one family member says they're doing well.
