Duo on shoplifting spree

Couple expected to hit the area again

By Renee Stoll

NORTH NAPLES, FL. - Shoplifting may be down for Collier County in 2009, but a couple tearing through the county on a shoplifting spree isn't helping that number go any lower.

Pearle Vision in North Naples is one of their latest victims, stealing $1,200 worth of glasses, and the duo may be poised to strike the area again.

"We've heard that the people visit the area about every six months and we're expecting them back," Dr. Brigid Ogden with the store tells me.

Thanks to the cameras at her store they two criminals were caught stuffing glasses down their socks. Now, Ogden says the sheriff's office believes they will be hitting up this area any day now.

"They've seen them in other videos, one was in Wiggin's actually for vandalizing a car and taking things from the car. So they're linking them with other security video from around town," the doctor explains.

Ogden says the duo have a strategic plan, using their bodies to block each other. But, what she believes sets this couple apart from other criminals is their demeanor. "It did seem like they were doing this for the thrill of shoplifting, not from a need perspective."

She wouldn't be surprised if the couple didn't stick to optical stores, "You could actually see the woman getting excited in the whole process."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
