COLLIER COUNTY - We first told you about red light cameras on the fritz, now more cameras are being installed while the others are still broken.
There are already twelve red light running cameras across Collier. The county is expanding the program, adding twelve more cameras by the end of this year. Eight will be installed by the end of this month.
On Friday, crews from American Transportation Systems installed more cameras at Pine Ridge Road and Airport Pulling Road.
"It's kind of an invasion of privacy," says driver Carol Yandell.
Plus, you saw on WINK how two cameras were blinking uncontrollably earlier this week.
"If people are driving through a green light and they're still getting tickets for it, it's ridiculous," says motorist Anna Caballero.
Those cameras still aren't fixed and the county has cut power to them. Now, drivers are asking why add new ones when the old ones may be unreliable.
"After what I've seen on the T.V.. with the accuracy I think there could be a lot of problems with it, unfair problems," says Yandell.
"You're going to get people who see the flash get nervous and slam on the brakes," says driver Bob Smith. "I'm a truck driver so I see enough junk as it is."
Other motorists say the more cameras, the better.
"I see so many people running red lights its gotten a lot better since we started using those cameras, but I think we need more," says motorist Rita Leonard.
Collier County Commissioner Donna Fiala says she will be talking about red light cameras on Tuesday, all because of our story on Wink. We'll be covering the meeting and we'll let you know what happens.
