Ft. Myers Toyota issues safety alert to local drivers and stays open 24/7 to fix problems

By WINK News

Ft. Myers, Fla.-A Southwest Florida Toyota dealership sends a warning to local drivers. This, on the heels of the company's apology by Toyota's President.

Ft. Myers Toyota is urging all car owners to check their floor mats.

If the driver's side mat is bunching or didn't come with the car, then it could interfere with the gas pedal and cause an accident.

Ft. Myers Toyota suggests you do not use improper or after-market mats.

Do not stack floor mats on top of each other.

Do not flip the floor mat upside down.

Make sure to use the clips designed to secure the model specific mats to the floorboard.

The local dealer also issued a statement, saying it's service department will be open 24/7 to fix the sticky gas pedal problems for recalled vehicles.

It also wants customers to note that the "sticky" gas pedal problems are a separate issue than the floor mat interference problems and customers can find more information by calling Ft. Myers Toyota or visiting toyota.com.

Once the parts become available to fix the gas pedal problems, Ft. Myers will stay open as long as needed to provide assistance to customers.
