Animal rescuers forced to move

Foreclosures having an affect

By WINK News

ALVA, Fla. - At Pine Island Rescue, animals keep coming in but the economy is making it hard to keep up.

"We got beat up pretty bad," says manager Marcia Diamond. "We used to have these places that would donate food and now because of the economy, they don't donate anymore."

They were also forced to move because their landlord went into foreclosure.

Now, only a few days into a brand new location in Alva, co-manager Kathryn Markham is looking forward to a fresh start.

"We've probably rescued over a thousand pets," she says, "and we've found a lot of them homes. We have rescued some animals that we had struggled with but,we found home for them."

Donations have cut down their ability to take in animals and care for them, but the group will continue as best they can.

Says Markham: "We do it from the heart."
