NAPLES, Fla. - Going shopping on Black Friday? There's an app for that, and the man who developed that iPhone application lives in Naples.
Shayne Faerber doesn't like to shop, but he spent six months sitting at his computer creating an iPhone application just for shoppers.
"I would hate to walk in and be on the opposite side of the mall I wanted to be at."
He joined forces with MEDL Mobile to create "Mall Maps."
"It gathers your local information via the GPS in the map." ...and up pops all the malls in your area. "You can zoom in and out to figure out where you're going."
It's ready just in time for Black Friday.
"Now, I have all the directories. I can figure out where I want to park, which way to go, which way to navigate around through the mall. To get - personally for me - in and out as soon as possible."
The iPhone app launched eight days ago, and it's already the 23rd most popular application in the reference category.
"There's 90,000, 100,000 apps in the app store right now, so being that high in our category after eight days is pretty great."
All Shayne had to do was buy an Apple computer. Now, he is just waiting to see how much money he can bring in. The app costs $3.00 to download, and he'll split the profit with Apple and MEDL Mobile. It's extra money the server says will help on slow nights.
"Even if it gives me another 500 or 1,000 a month, compared to the amount it could make - over 40 million people."
Because the "Mall Maps" iPhone application just launched days ago, the creator doesn't know how much he has made yet.
