ESTERO, Fla. - Estero Community Park shined this evening for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk. The enthusiasm was contagious as friends and family honored and remembered those whose lives have been touched by Cancer.

Hundreds of balloons twinkled in the night sky. White for survivors, red for supporters, and gold in memory of loved ones lost to Cancer. Robert Whan and his family remembered his son, Caleb. "This is very touching," Whan said. "You see the survivors out here, you see the other families, and its for not only childhood cancer but all Leukemias."

When the sky darkened, the park lit up. Some walked for those who didn't have the strength. "It really means a lot to her that we're at least here," Ed Broderick of Team Broderick said of his mother. "She wanted to be here. We were even going to try to get her a walker or a scooter to be here, but she's not healthy enough to make it."

Others walked as way of saying thank you. "The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has done so much for me in regards to education and copay assistance," Cancer survivor Wendy Selman. "It's just my giveback every year, that I try to raise as much money as I can for them."

Money raised will go towards lifesaving Blood Cancer research, and financial help for patients. The goal someday, is to have a cure...and no more gold balloons. "Every 4 minutes, somebody is diagnosed and every 10 minutes, somebody dies," said Sheriann Namer, LLS Campaign Director. "We want to get rid of those statistics and we want to find a cure. That's why we're here. That's why we do what we do."
