FORT MYERS, Fla. - A bi-plane crashed at Page Field in Fort Myers during the annual aviation day event.

The accident happened shortly after the gates opened Saturday morning at 10a.m.

"I happened to notice this red plane just tipping, coming in on a landing, looked like he clipped the wing or something on the ground," said Ed Metz. "It hit the dirt, spun around in a big cloud of dust and that was it."

Emergency crews helped three people from the wreckage. According to Victoria Moreland with the Lee County Port Authority, all three were conscious and alert but were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with injuries.

"All of our emergency personnel were on station here because they were going to be doing some demonstrations as part of aviation day, so we were on sight within moments of the accident," said Moreland.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
