SWFL man investigated for trying to send flowers to accused Fort Hood gunman

By Jeremiah Jacobsen

LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A Southwest Florida man grabs the attention of the FBI following the Fort Hood massacre.

Dan Ross tried to send flowers to the accused shooter, saying he was guided by his faith; but it led to a knock on his door by the FBI.

"We're a gung-ho military family, we're gung-ho for the United States of America," Ross said. He's a Vietnam veteran and A proud parent of children in the military, but says he wanted to reach out to the accused Fort Hood shooter out of respect.

"I requested the florist would send roses to Major Hasan because in the Koran, it says that what he hath done is correct," Ross said.

In an e-mail to a Texas florist, Ross called the accused shooter "a hero;" not necessarily for his actions, but because he says Major Nidal Hasan was tested to stay true to his belief system.

"There should be someone in the world that would respect a man's beliefs," Ross said.

Ross claims to be strong in his christian beliefs, sitting with a bible during the interview. In his message to the florist, he noted that one should "love your enemies."

"I do not accept that what he did is correct, but I accept the Koran as a holy book," Ross said. He's has maintained a website outlining his Christian beliefs, after he claims to have been visited by an angel.

Ross says he's hopeful some kind of good can come out of the shooting in Fort Hood, to bring an end to the variety of religions, and promote world peace.

"I'm worn out by humanity, their lack of love," Ross said.

The FBI isn't commenting on any investigation.
