LEE COUNTY, FL.-An acclaimed Lee County School Principal is under investigation by the School District.
Prinicpal Barbara Von Harten from The Sanibel School is accused of
bullying and harassing students.
The explosive allegations against Von Harten fill a binder.
Pages and pages of accusations and concerns from parents.
Several parents even accuse Von Harten of sexually harassing their children.
"I know what she did to my kids. I know what's she doing to other
parents," said Claudia Foster.
Foster gets chills up her spine when she thinks about what happened to
her son while at The Sanibel School.
"Something absolutely horrendous happened to my son," she said.
She says principal Von Harten inappropriately touched her son by
giving him massages.
Her other son was allegedly bullied by the school principal.
She took her concerns to the school district.
An investigation was launched, but Von Harten was cleared of any wrongdoing.
"We're tried of things being swept under the rug," Claudia said.
So she formed "Team Sanibel".
An organization of almost fifty families.
"The list grows everyday," she said.
The list is comprised of parents who say Barbara Von Harten is
emotionally hurting their children.
"School should be a wonderful experience. My son hates school. It's
all because of bullying and it took me two years to convince him he
was not stupid," said Charlotte Harlow, another concerned parent.
Harlow pulled both her son and daughter from The Sanibel School after
she say Von Harten was bullying them.
Her daughter Kirsten is now home schooled.
"I really can't say anything nice about her. I really can't. There's
nothing nice I've never seen her do," Kirsten said.
But there's plenty of people who do have nice things to say about Von Harten.
In the 12 years she's been principal, the school is consistently
recognized as one of the best in the state.
Twice it was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.
But parents say that has come at a price tag.
They say to keep the school standards high, Von Harten tried to get
rid of students who didn't do well on the F-CATS.
Parents allege she threatened to hold students back if they didn't
transfer schools.
Von Harten didn't return our calls to comment for this story.
She is still on duty while the district investigates the accusations.
The school district couldn't comment because they are actively
investigating the case.
