Armed Robbers Attack a Mother and Son Over a Jar of Change

By WINK News

Two robbers broke into a Bokeelia home and attacked a mother and son just to get a jar of coins and cash worth about $5.00.

"They kept hollering, I want your jar of money, I want your jar of money," said victim Juanita Orriss, 67. "I was terrified."

The two men forced their way into the Orriss home on Avenue C around 4:30 Sunday morning. They were wearing ski masks and armed with bats and a gun.

"The door flew open and the guy said where's your money, he had a gun pointed right at my face," said Edward Orriss, 45.

When Juanita tried calling 911, the robbers ripped the phone off her wall. They also pistol whipped Edward leaving a gash on his head.

Finally, after rummaging through the home, the attackers found the jar. The Orriss are scared and wondering why two men would act so violently just to get a few dollars.

"Why would they want to do this," said Juanita.

The Orriss' think the robbers may live near them and be familiar with their home.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
