Florida Fish and Wildlife officers are trying to catch a bear in the Buckingham area of Lee County. The animal has popped up twice near people in the last three days. It has rummaged through yards, knocked over trash cans and scared neighbors.
" I was suddenly face to face with a bear," said neighbor Kevin Goodnow. "What was I supposed to do except run?"
Goodnow encountered the black bear in his backyard. He is the latest person to have a run-in with the animal. Fish and Wildlife officials believe the bear has been fed by people and no longer fears humans.
"It's a problem bear," said Lt. Darrin Riley.
Officials have set up a trap baited with bacon and dog food. They are hoping to catch the bear and release in an unpopulated area.
"I just hope they can put a stop to it and catch him," said Goodnow. I He is going to be a nuisance.
