NORTH NAPLES, Fla. - More than one month after a Southwest Florida car dealer submitted its first "Cash for Clunkers" rebate claims, it still hasn't seen a dime.
The dealer says they've been submitting claims since July 27th on the 40 clunkers they've collected, but to this point, not one of those claims has been accepted.
At $3,500 to $4,500 dollars a piece, CFO Sandra Taylor says they're out at least $150,000 right now.
"This program was a ten day submission. Five days later, you're supposed to get paid," Taylor says. "We haven't seen the first penny."
Dealers are supposed to be told if a rebate claim is accepted or rejected, but Taylor's heard nothing at all on claims filed as far back as August 3rd.
With the rebates being Internet based, she says she's stuck.
"There is nowhere to go," Taylor says. "Unfortunately, there's no one to call. No one to ask. There's no immediate measure for getting the funds."
While its frustrating, Taylor says they can handle the gap in the cash flow.
"We're very fortunate, in that we're able to wait," she explains.
But the same can't be said for other dealers. Since they have to pay off the cars they sell, Taylor says the rebate delay is hurting many.
"A lot of dealers are really suffering from cash flow shortage," she adds.
While they aren't seeing cash for the clunkers at Bob Taylor Chevy, the sales manager at Germain Toyota says they are getting paid. So far, they've received rebates for 20 of the 117 clunkers they took in.
