Local Restaurant Growing Despite Economy

By Nicole Papageorge

COLLIER COUNTY - A local restaurant created because of the troubled economy is growing.

Mr. $5 opened in January with an idea, keep prices low and the crowds will come.

"Nearly every large chain was doing some kind of $5 special, so I figured thats what america wants to pay," says owner Anthony Chinaglia.

24-year-old Chinaglia says and when the economy took a dive he knew this would be a hit. He says in the first four months he turned a profit ..

"It's a homemade cooked meal," says Chinaglia. "I have top chefs line of guys in the back and people love it they come back every single day non-stop."

Jerry Durante and his wife ate here for the first time on Monday and they're planning on coming back.

"Oh absolutely," says Durante. "I like the food and the prices are good too."

One person visiting the area happened to stop by and it turned out he's a C.E.O. of a franchising company.

"The name is Francorp," says Chinaglia. "They work with McDonald's, Midas, Nathan's Hot Dogs, you name it, if it's a large chain it went through them."

Now, Francorp International is looking to franchise the restaurant.

"They believe that Mr. $5 is going to be such a big boom, but its got to be something we jump on now in this economy," says Chinaglia.

It's a business idea that's beating the economic odds.

Starting July 27th, 2009, Mr. $5 will be open for dinner too. Their hours will be 7:30am to 9pm, seven days a week.

The restaurant is located at 1716 Airport Road South, in East Naples.
Their phone number is (239) 262-1555.
