FORT MYERS, Fla. - As hybrid technology begins to catch on in the U.S., a foreign auto group is offering their version of the ideal car.
A special intake and exhaust filtration system make the VW Jetta TDI a competitive green car. It can get 40 miles or more to the gallon. We took the car out for a test drive and maintained 44 miles to the gallon at 55 miles per hour.
Diesel fuel happens to be hovering at or below the price of regular unleaded gasoline. But, the diesel car remains a minority on U.S. roads.
"The demand is so high for the diesel engine in Europe that, it's a little slow here coming to the U.S.," said Maurizio Randazzo with VW Fort Myers. "So the advertising part of it is not really out there."
Prices for the clean diesel cars are comparable to American hybrid cars.
