"Cash Feenz" teen sentenced 30 years for his role in double murder

By Nick Spinetto, WINK News

Lee County - In a Lee County courtroom Tuesday afternoon, 19 year old Roderick Washington was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in 2006 murders of Jeffrey and Alexis Sosa.

Washington was found guilty on two counts of aggravated battery in May.

The 19 year old was also on trial for 1st degree murder and kidnapping, but jurors were deadlocked.

The State will retry Washington beginning Wednesday on the murder and kidnapping charges.

If found guilty, Washington will most likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

Washington is one of ten teens from the so called "Cash Feenz" gang who were arrested and charged with killing the Sosa cousins.

Testimony at Washington's trial revealed the Sosa's were bound and tortured for hours before being brought to a remote area in Cape Coral, where they were shot multiple times.

18 year-old Alexis Sosa's body was stuffed in the trunk of his car, then lit on fire

14 year old Jeffrey Sosa's body was found on the ground next to the car.

5 of the people arrested pled guilty for their roles in the crime in exchange for a lesser sentence and their testimony against the other defendants.

Not including Roderick Washington, 3 other "Cash Feenz" are awaiting trial: Paul Nunes, Kenneth Lopez and Kemar Johnston.

Ashley Toye went to trial in 2007 and was found guilty of first degree murder, kidnapping, and aggravated battery.

She was sentenced to life in prison, but is currently appealing the verdict.
