FORT MYERS, FLA-- From sea to shining sea, flags are hanging on homes, celebrating freedom.
"I got mine up already this morning," said Marion Bahr.
But in aisle after aisle, we found the symbol of that freedom wasn't made here.
"I haven't' even looked at my own," said Bahr when we asked her where her flag was made.
The first store we went to, we couldn't find a single flag made in America.
We found most made in china.
One had an American address as a distributor, but right above it said "made in India."
In that store, the closest we found said flag: 100 percent made in the USA, pole: made in China.
"I didn't know they were made in China," said Latia Davis when we pointed it out to her, "I would think they were made in the USA being that it is a US flag."
At the second store we visited, nearly every flag was 100 percent made in America.
We did find one made in China.
"I think a lot of people would assume a US flag would be made in the United States," said Davis.
Still--seeing "Old Glory" out-sourced to other countries doesn't sit well with the Americans we spoke with.
"I believe American flags should be made in America not China," said Theran Green, "It's sad that they are, but what can you really do about it? Like anything anymore in this store here, everything is China, too. So I think everything should be made here at home."
And to make sure it was made here in America, check for a label that says 100 percent made in the USA. The price was slightly higher on the American made products.
