CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Getting bills in the mail is never fun, but imagine opening a phone bill and seeing you owe 74,000 dollars. It happened to a Cape Coral business owner, and no surprise - he's mad.
"Obviously, I can't afford to pay 74,000 dollars, especially with the way the economy is right now. It's just not possible."
HPH Corporation doesn't plan on paying the phone bill. Employees said they didn't make the calls to Germany, and don't think it's possible anyone could have. The phone bill states a call is made nearly every minute, but the calls don't last for just seconds.
"There's no way someone can make a call at 3:11 for 15 minutes and also at 3:11 make another call for 29 minutes... and that's just on one phone line."
It's something Norman says is impossible. He's blaming a computer program.
"It's humanly impossible to make that many calls at one time. It just doesn't work."
Employees have noticed they've been getting a lot of hang-ups and think that's related to their phone lines being tampered with.
HPH is working with Embarq about the bill, but won't hear back from them until the end of this week, or next week.
