Neighbors react to father accused of killing son

By Christina Hernandez, WINK News

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - Monday, neighbors reacted to a father accused of shooting and killing his own son.

It happened early Saturday morning in Lehigh Acres.

Neighbors WINK News spoke with were very surprised about the crime because they said they live on a quiet street and in a very safe area. They also know things like this happen - sometimes close to home.

"Oh my God! Really?"

Susan Dugan reacted to hearing a man is accused of shooting his son to death.

"It's been quiet any of the times that we've been here," Dugan said. "It's been pretty quiet."

That's why Susan and her daughter Paige are thinking about moving to 7th Street... in a house just feet away from a homicide.

"Knowing that there is crazy things going on in the neighborhood, I'm having second thoughts," Paige Prather said. "I don't necessarily want to move my kids in an unsafe place."

Neighbors said, it's normally not an unsafe place.

"Yes, it's quiet, but now, it's everywhere I tell you," one neighbor said about crime.

"It's life, just like anything else," Larry Arnnane said. "Nothing we can do about it."

Larry Arnnane bought his home in January. He moved to the neighborhood after researching the area, and finding it secure enough to live in.

"It's a very safe area," Arnnane said. "Deputies are on this road. They're doing an outstanding job."

The news of a shooting, leaves one potential neighbor re-thinking her move.

"Knowing that we've got loose cannons in the neighborhood is not a safe thought," Paige Prather said.

WINK News knocked on the door where the homicide took place, but no one answered.
