Cape Coral mom arrested for breastfeeding while drunk

By Cristin Severance, WINK News

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Police arrested a Cape Coral mother after they say she was breastfeeding her baby drunk. The father was also arrested for child neglect. Police say they found bottle of pills in the baby's crib, broken glass on the floor, and drug paraphernalia on the child's dresser.

Marc Rush and Renee Vanalsburg are facing child neglect charges. Police say they were called to the home where the couple was staying at for a domestic dispute.

When police arrived, they say Vanalsburg was breastfeeding the baby and she appeared "heavily under the influence of alcohol and narcotics" at the time.

Officers say the baby's father, Marc Rush, was passed out. On the floor of the baby's room police found broken glass, ant killer, spray paint and knives.

Police say they also found a bottle of Oxycodone containing pills in the baby's crib and a container with white powder on the baby's dresser.

WINK News talked to the Vanalsburg's half-sister who was letting the couple stay at her Cape Coral home.

WINK News asked, "Did you have any idea she had drugs in the baby's crib?"

Vanalsburg's half-sister replied, "No because she has locks on the door and she keeps everything locked up so there's no way to know what she does because she's so deceitful."

The baby is with protective services.
