Wedding insurance becoming popular

By Christina Hernandez, WINK News

SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - Your wedding day is supposed to be perfect, but what if one of your vendors goes out of business after you've made plans? Wedding insurance helps couples stick to their wedding budget by covering costs should something unexpected happen.

Nicole Peterson is getting married December 19th, and she's almost done with all the planning.

"It's going good. I'm trying to get things done early because I'm in college right now, so I don't want to fall behind," Peterson said.

Planning ahead is a must when it comes to special events like weddings, but in this struggling economy - how positive are you that the florist you hire, will still be in business on your big day?

Peterson said, "I've thought about it, you know, whether a florist or things like that, because I'm worried about getting things so early. I don't want anybody to go out of business, you know, because that's bad on my part, but with the insurance - it sounds awesome."

Wedding, or special event insurance, can guarantee you get your deposit back - when your florist, DJ, or photographer go out of business.

"That's understandable of why we would want to have wedding insurance - to make sure that it goes off without a hitch," Brad Congress said.

Congress is the owner of Bradley's Fine Jewelry and sees couples all the time. He considers giving wedding advice part of his job.

Congress advised, "Check the budget. See what the budget is for the entire project. Make sure it's something that's obtainable, something that's affordable."

Peterson has been planning her wedding for a while, and she says the last thing she wants to worry about is finding herself in a rut on her big day.

"I think the places that I've chosen so far are solid, but I would like to look into the insurance, just to check it out."

There's also travel insurance and credit card insurance programs that can help you if you've been laid off.
