The Florida High School Athletic Association is proposing a reduction in the number of regular season games schools could schedule. The proposal would cut the maximum number of regular season games in all sports but varsity football by twenty percent. These cuts would be mandatory for all schools regardless of budget.
Some schools say it could save them thousands of dollars. Others think it could be detrimental.
North Fort Myers High Athletic Director Erik Timko says "With this cap by the FHSAA, it would create a more level playing field for everyone involved."
Naples High A.D. Ernie Modugno disagrees. He says, "I think it ought to be local decision left up to districts and maybe individual high schools."
The FHSAA Board of Directors will vote on the proposal in late April. If it passes, the cuts will go into effect next school year.
