COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - The first night of the Collier County fair ended horribly for a teenage girl, after she fell 20 feet off of a carnival ride.
16-year-old Cecelia Amador was riding "The Avalanche" on Thursday night when her harness apparently came unlatched. Amador suffered five broken ribs and a bruised lung. She was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital.
"She was conscious," says Sgt. Ron Myers from the Collier County Fair Board. "She wasn't crying; she was telling us where she was hurting and what happened and where she had fallen."
On Friday, Florida's Department of Consumer Services inspected the ride. It will remain closed until they determine what happened.
WINK News spoke with one Collier County resident who says he'd still go on the ride despite the accident.
"Inspectors came by and I have to think that they're doing their job and accidents do happen," says resident Mark Papas.
Amador is in good condition and recovering at Lee Memorial Hospital.
