CCSO arrests 16-year-old for vehicle burglaries in Grove City

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - A Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputy was at the right place at the right time that resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old for breaking into at least four vehicles.

The deputy was in the parking lot of Willow Plaza, 3031 Placida Rd., when he says he heard two loud banging noises like glass breaking. When he exited his patrol car, he says he saw the teen fleeing the area, gave chase and apprehended him in a wooded area nearby at 12:13 a.m. Friday morning.

The deputy says that upon searching the teen, he found two knives, three cell phones, cash, a GPS, Florida Lottery tickets, pens, four lighters and a pack of cigarettes.

The deputy says the teen confessed to burglarizing at least five vehicles on Bourbon Street and Willow Ave. The deputy then drove the teen around the area to point out the ones he burglarized. The vehicle on Willow Ave. was the one that had two points of impact on the windshield consistent with the two loud banking noises the deputy heard earlier.

The teen was charged with three felony counts of Burglary, one felony count of Grand Theft, plus one count each of Criminal Mischief and Petit Theft. He was transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he was processed, then released to his parents.
