90-year-old gets six-figure check

By Nicole Papageorge, WINK News

NAPLES, Fla. - You can find almost anything at the Options Thrift Store in Naples; furniture, clothes, even spunky 90-year-olds.

Hildegard Hudson has been volunteering at the thrift store for more than ten years. She says the shop, which gives all its proceeds to the local women's shelter, keeps her active and young.

"This gets me out of the house, gets me talking to people and I do love talking," says Hudson.

As much as she's given to others, today she was on the receiving end of a six-figure check from the State of Florida.

"I don't know that we have many checks like this," says Florida's Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink.

The money is from stock Hudson bought in 1993. The company lost track of her last year. By law, they had to send the asset to the state. Hudson was persistent and now she's reunited with her lost treasure.

"It's just enough... just enough to tied me over," says Hudson.

But, what does Hudson plan to do with all that money?

"Get a new kitchen and go gambling," says Hudson.

As for the thrift store? Hudson says she won't stop volunteering.

"This is my baby," says Hudson.

The State of Florida says they're holding more than $2 billion in unclaimed money. To find out if you're a lucky recipient; go to http://www.fltreasurehunt.org/index.jsp
