LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - A Lehigh Acres burglar left behind a big piece of evidence...his GMC pick-up truck.
Deputies found the truck parked in the driveway of an empty house one street over from the victim's home on Naples Avenue South.
Deputies believe the suspect made multiple trips between the car and the victim's home to load up on more of their stuff.
It was the alarm system on Tamara Ratzlaff and her sister Nicole's home that first alerted deputies the burglar had gotten inside.
Tamara got the call from the alarm company while she was at work.
"I was on my way over and I saw three cop cars pass by and I though...I have to hurry," explained Ratzlaff.
The suspect was able to get away before deputies tracked him down. The Sheriff's Office K-9 unit and helicopter searched for nearly two hours, but never found him.
They did find his truck though, with the Ratzlaff's stuff still inside.
The sister's got most of the jewelry, a Wii game system and gun back. They still don't know what else may be missing from the home.
"You feel violated...it's just wrong," said Ratzlaff, "You work so hard to get some of your stuff, to get the little toys and stuff to play with and people just come in and try to take it."
Deputies say home burglaries in Lehigh Acres are not uncommon. At least 17 break-ins were reported during the weekend. The Ratzlaff's say they consider themselves fortunate to at least have gotten most of their stuff back, unlike other victims of the crime.
Deputies believe they will be able to find the suspect thanks to the truck he left behind.
