FORT MYERS, Fla. - Bell ringers without bells? It sounds weird, but that is exactly what Salvation Army volunteers are facing at a Fort Myers Walmart.
A bell ringer tells WINK it's because a nearby business complained about the noise.
Seeing people jingling keys isn't what you would normally see or hear when the Red Kettle Campaign is out in action.
A volunteer Thursday morning came to get her supplies for the Charity, but was missing one important thing... the bell. Lisa Quattrone says, "We came in this morning to get the supplies and she handed me the equipment and said we might not have a bell today due to a complaint that happened yesterday, so sure enough when we opened everything up and there was no bell, so we don't have a bell today."
Even Walmart customers were surprised to hear about the noise complaints saying they don't think the bell hurts anything or anyone.
When word got back to the Salvation Army about their volunteer bell ringers missing something important, they came to the rescue and brought the 'right sound' for the job.
Volunteers say now people can hear them, and recognize the familiar sound of the Salvation Army helping others.
