NAPLES, Fla. - A Naples man was arrested after police say he stole a pair of earrings then swallowed them to avoid getting caught.

Collier County deputies say on Saturday 18-year-old William Colburn stole the earrings from the JC Penney store at 2076 9th Street North.

Colburn allegedly removed the earrings from its box, placed them in a bottle of vitamin water and left the store. When confronted by a guard, deputies say Colburn drank the water along with the earrings.

Colburn is now charged with petty theft, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana.
